The Var River Project, France
In Fall 1994 a flood wave originating from the Var river inundated Nice’s international airport in South-West France, causing millions in damages. This extreme flood event was the indirect result of the canalisation of the river since the 19th century. Professor Peters worked on the Var project from 1998 on, originally at the request from the riparians, and subsequently in a team of five experts appointed by the Administrative Court of Nice.
